Barista Quality Coffee at Home in 5 Minutes or Less

Lady Drinking Volcanic Soil Coffee

There's no reason to pay exorbitant fees for great coffee because making a barista quality brew at home is easier than you think. And while you can spend a fortune on specialist equipment, that isn't necessary. A French press or a stove-top espresso maker are two of the simplest ways to make a great brew. Either can be purchased for less than 30 dollars in a range of sizes depending on how much coffee you need.

A French press, or cafetiere as it is known in Britain, is a glass or metal jug with a metal sieve on a plunger. This is pure simplicity to use, but the coffee it produces taste exquisite. To make a great brew, add the desired amount of coffee to the pot and top up with just boiled water. The strength can be altered by the amount of grounds added to the pot. Allow this to brew for five minutes then press the plunger down slowly. This will settle all the grains to the bottom leaving delicious coffee for yourself and your family.

Alternatively you can make great espresso with a stove-top pot. The pots are very straightforward to use. Simply add water to the base, put the coffee into a small funnel that sits over the water and screw on the top. Place this on your stove and bring to a boil. The coffee will hiss close to the end of the brewing time alerting you to turn off the stove and pour the coffee.

The espresso made with a stove-top pot can be used to make all the coffee shop classic such as americano, cafe latte, cappuccino, or macchiato. Most of these need steamed milk, but if you're already at the stove to heat the coffee, it's simple to warm a pan of milk at the same time. If that isn't suitable though, read Kitchn's article about how milk can be shaken and microwaved to make super fast foam first thing in the morning.

Either of these simple devices will save money and frustration by eliminating wrong orders and endless waits in a cafe. Also, special dietary requirements can be easily accommodated without lengthy explanations. All excellent reasons to start enjoying our great, pure Costa Rican coffee at home every day of the week.
